# Chartsmade > Chartsmade turns a table, a CSV or Excel file, a link to a CSV or a published Google Sheet, or a sentence into a finished chart. You share it as a live embed that sizes itself, or download it as a PNG or SVG. It has a REST API and an MCP server, and it is part of Look Good Tools. In the editor you paste data, see what was read, pick one of the suggested charts, then set the style, theme, brand kit and words. Saving gives a link, an iframe and an oEmbed URL. Charts made without an account are kept for 30 days; sign in with a Look Good Tools account to keep them. Free to start. ## Pages - [Home](https://chartsmade.com/): what Chartsmade does and how - [Gallery](https://chartsmade.com/gallery): 29 sample charts drawn by Chartsmade, by family; each opens in the editor - [Editor](https://chartsmade.com/new): make a chart (no account needed) - [My charts](https://chartsmade.com/charts): your saved charts; needs a free Look Good Tools account (sign in first) ## Gallery families - [Lines and areas](https://chartsmade.com/gallery#lines): Change over time, with events, highlights and stacked parts. - [Bars and waterfalls](https://chartsmade.com/gallery#bars): Rankings, parts of a whole, gains and losses. - [Before and after](https://chartsmade.com/gallery#compare): Two points in time, side by side. - [Spreads](https://chartsmade.com/gallery#rank): How the values spread out, and when they peak. - [Flows and parts](https://chartsmade.com/gallery#parts): Where the money goes, and how big each part is. - [Small multiples](https://chartsmade.com/gallery#many): One small chart per thing, on a shared or a free scale. - [Calendars, prices and two scales](https://chartsmade.com/gallery#time): Days of the year, share prices, and two measures at once. ## Building with Chartsmade - REST API: https://chartsmade.com/v1. JSON in and out; send `Authorization: Bearer cm_live_…`. `POST /v1/charts` takes one of spec, data or dataRef; `GET`, `PATCH` and `DELETE /v1/charts/:id`; `POST /v1/render` draws without storing (svg, png or html); `POST /v1/suggest` returns ranked suggestions. - MCP server: https://chartsmade.com/mcp (stateless Streamable HTTP; tools/call needs an API key). Tools: `make_chart` (Makes a hosted Chartsmade chart.); `suggest_charts` (Reads data (CSV/TSV text, JSON or rows) and returns 3 to 5 ranked chart suggestions: kind, style, a one-line reason for the shape, a headline and subtitle computed from the numbers, and a full spec for each, with valid: true when that spec passed Chartsmade's validator.); `render_chart` (Draws a chart once: an SVG (returned as text) or a PNG (returned as an image), at an export frame: square 1080×1080, portrait 1080×1350, story 1080×1920, landscape 1200×675 (default), og 1200×630, slide 1920×1080.); `update_chart` (Changes a chart made by make_chart (the id comes from make_chart's response, or from the chart URL /c/).) - Embeds: https://chartsmade.com/c/ is the chart page; the iframe posts `chartsmade:resize` with its height so the host can fit it. https://chartsmade.com/c/.png and .svg are the images. oEmbed: https://chartsmade.com/oembed?url=. - Live data: a chart can keep a link (`dataRef`) to a CSV, JSON or published Google Sheet and read it again hourly or daily. ## What a chart can be - Kinds: line; area; bar; waterfall; candlestick; dual; multiples; slope; dumbbell; sparkline; areabump; beeswarm; smallmultiples; waffle; calendar; treemap; sankey; ridgeline - Styles: calm; instrument; frontpage; verdict; showpiece - Download sizes: square 1080×1080; portrait 1080×1350; story 1080×1920; landscape 1200×675; og 1200×630; slide 1920×1080
